MEGALITHS OF KERALA
The megalithic culture was the earliest known culture responsible for the introduction into Kerala of full fledged agricultural economy based on irrigation. Much field has been done for well over a century in different parts of Kerala by many amateur archaeologists and enthusiastic scholars . The world wide distribution of a single cultural trait is an important phenomenon of megalithic culture. Exploration and excavation of megalithic sites have been conducted at Porkalam, Machad, Pazhayanoor, Peramabra, Ummachipoyil, Cheramanankadu, Kumasseri, and Anakkara reveil important gleanings on megalithic culture. The intricate problems about this culture are the human mobility of the megalithic period, world wide migration ,cross fertilization and the makers of this culture and its chronology, and archaeo-astronomical significance and geo-archaeological elements.
